Choosing The Best Plate Width For Your Flat Iron

There are so many important points to be considered when searching for that perfect fitting flat iron, but what about the plate width? Don't set the plate width aside when choosing your new flat iron, because the plate width you choose is more vital than you may think. By choosing the correct plate in a flat iron, you will be saving yourself a world of time in your hair styling routine, and this is very important for those who have an extremely busy schedule. The best way to figure out the width is to go by your hair length. Your hair length decides the plate width to be purchased, instead of your hair styling needs that any of the flat irons offer.

The most commonly used flat iron plate width is the 1-inch plate. All though this is a slightly versatile plate width that many flat iron users can get decent results with, the 1-inch plate works best for medium lengths of hair. The 1-inch was originally designed for hair being past your ears but still slightly above your shoulders. For hair lengths at and beyond your shoulders really requires a different plate width. Medium hair has fast styling results from the 1-inch flat iron plate and also requires less flat iron application to reduce any damage that could result from regular use.

If your hair is at or below your shoulders or is thick in texture, then the width of plates should be at least a 1 ¼ inch. There are also plate widths of 2 inches and even 2 ¼ inches for the extremely thick and long luscious head of hair. These larger flat iron plate widths save a tremendous amount of time when working with the thicker longer head of hair and keep damage down to a minimum amount.

For those of you with short hair that is close to the scalp or hair right above the ears, the best plate width would be ¾ inch plates. This is the perfect plate width for those with bangs too. Thinner plate widths are best for having full control when working close to your face and scalp. Don't let smaller plates fool you, when it comes to curly hair. As small flat iron plates of a good company will do the job of flattening those curls!

All though you need to be comfortable with the width of flat iron plates chosen, it does not hurt to take the time and try out different widths of your friends' flat irons, take advantage of mall flat iron demonstrations, or ask your hair stylist's opinions on variations in widths of plates to really get the best feel of the different plate widths while using. With a little researching, you will find the best fitting flat iron and plate width just for you!
